Taylor Swift says knife attack on children in Britain dancing to her music left her “completely shocked”

Taylor Swift posted a message on social media on Tuesday expressing her condolences, a day after two children were killed and six others seriously injured in a Knife attack at a dance and yoga class in the UK that revolved around her music. Two adults were also in critical condition on Tuesday.

“The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport keeps coming over me and I am just in complete shock,” Swift wrote on social media. “The loss of life and innocence and the horrific trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families and the first responders. These were just little kids at a dance class. I don’t even know how I can ever express my condolences to these families.”

A 17-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and murder, and a knife was seized following the attack, police said Monday. CBS News affiliate BBC News reported that the suspect was born in Cardiff, Wales, and moved to the Southport area in 2013.

By Tuesday morning, a group of Taylor Swift fans had raised the equivalent of about $36,000 – double their fundraising goal – to support the victims of the attack and their families, BBC News reported.

The fundraising page says the group is working with the regional Alder Hey Children’s Charity “and is raising funds for the funeral of the two young Swifties who tragically passed away.” Several of the children involved in the attack are currently being treated at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, BBC News reported.

“It breaks our hearts to think that these parents are going through hell and that they are under financial stress because of it,” Cristina Jones, from the UK and EU Facebook group for Taylor Swift, told the BBC. “We can’t make it any better, but it was definitely a priority for us to relieve some of the stress.”
