Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks Unveils New Flagship Location in Downtown Atlanta

Hayes announced the closure of his original downtown restaurant, located at 57 Forsyth St. NW, on July 13 after a burst water pipe flooded the space. in early June. At first, he told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution he was confident he would reopen soon, but after seeing the repairs needed, he decided it was best to vacate the premises.

When Hayes drove by and saw that Waffle House had vacated the space, he thought, “This must be my spot. This is my place.”

He didn’t have to wait long for that, either; the restaurant is expected to open in eight to 10 weeks, he said, and will serve the same menu of beef, salmon and chicken cheesesteaks, egg rolls and fries. The location will also sell beer.

Hayes began selling his cheesesteaks He opened his restaurant in a Shell gas station on Winters Chapel Road in 2014 and gained a large following after Philadelphia rapper Eve praised his food on social media. He opened his downtown restaurant in 2019 and followed it up with a second outpost in Doraville shortly after.

The restaurant, named after his father, now has four locations in Atlanta, including one inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium. and one in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Hayes said Marietta Street has a lot of tourists and foot traffic, which would give the restaurant “more visibility and more brand awareness.” The restaurant is sandwiched between Twin Smokers BBQ, Max’s Coal Oven Pizzeria and Stats Brewpub, and is within walking distance of Atlanta attractions like the College Football Hall of Fame, Centennial Olympic Park and the Georgia World Congress Center.

Hayes said The new location will include neon lights to give it that “Philly vibe” he always wanted.

“I am bringing back an emblematic monument of the city,” he said.

He said reopening downtown Atlanta is important to him.

“It shows people that you can keep moving forward,” he said. “You can’t give up when you have an obstacle in your way.”
