OAKLAND — Police have identified two men killed within hours of each other in Oakland on the same day; one of the victims was shot at the other’s vigil.

The bloody day began at about 1:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of International Boulevard in Oakland, where 35-year-old Kamal Yates was killed by two gunmen whose identities have not yet been released, authorities said. Yates appeared to have been the target of an attack and was being chased before his death, police said.

That evening, shortly after 9 p.m., a man named Donte Walker, 33, was attending a vigil for Yates in the 2700 block of 73rd Avenue in Oakland when he was shot.

Both shootings remain under investigation and police are pursuing several leads, including a possible gang motive. Police believe Walker and Yates knew each other, but have not said how.

Oakland police and Crime Stoppers are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect in either case. Anyone with information can call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
