Brighton: Man beats woman and abuses another woman

A horrific video shows 21-year-old Halcyon Platt beating and stomping on a 23-year-old woman on October 1, 2023.

The video was shown to Lewes Crown Court. Platt was out and about in Brighton at night when he sexually assaulted another woman by grabbing her by the neck.

Platt attacked the second woman and walked toward a group of people who were concerned about the welfare of another man who was lying on the ground.

He pushed the woman out of the way and claimed to be a nurse. When she confronted him, Platt became aggressive.

Recorder Michael Brompton KC told Platt: ‘You responded by throwing her to the ground and delivering six massive blows to her head while six bystanders attempted to pull you away.

“They stood up, composed themselves, looked down and kicked her hard on the head twice.

“The video surveillance shows a scene of shocking and uncontrolled violence against a defenceless young woman lying on the ground.”

That same night, Platt, under the influence of ketamine and alcohol, sexually assaulted a 20-year-old woman.

The court heard that the woman was enjoying an evening with friends when Platt picked her up and grabbed her breasts and neck.

The woman spoke about the impact the traumatic event had on her.

She said: “I can no longer go out without worrying about what will happen to me. Since then, I have not been able to go to a bar or a club.”

“The last time I tried, I had a bad panic attack and had to go home.

“I also had to change my job.”

The 23-year-old woman who was attacked by Platt was also frightened and isolated.

She said: “For the first week I was afraid to go to sleep because I thought I might not wake up because of the head injury.

“I was also very anxious and isolated myself.

“After that, I found it difficult to leave the house. I was afraid that people would see my face and generally felt bad about the way I looked.”

Platt was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison and fined £228 at Lewes Crown Court on 12 July.

After serving half of his sentence, he can be released on parole.
