The announcement of his death was shared on the official X-account of the Bravos de León, the Mexican League team he played for this season. According to the MLB’s transactions page, Moronta was released by León last Thursday.

Before spending this season in the Mexican League, Moronta spent six years in Major League Baseball, making his debut with the San Francisco Giants in 2017. After four years in San Francisco, Moronta spent half of 2022 with the Dodgers and the other half with the Diamondbacks.

For the Diamondbacks, Moronta struck out 11 batters in 14 innings out of the bullpen. Moronta’s last MLB appearance was on May 24 as a member of the Los Angeles Angels.
