New York: One dead and six injured in mass shooting in Rochester, USA

One person died and six others were injured in a mass shooting at Maplewood Park in Rochester, New York, on Sunday. The shooting occurred around 6:20 p.m. (local time) during a large gathering of people in the park.

The deceased victim was about 20 years old, while another person is in critical condition, said police in the city of Rochester, which is located about 547 kilometers northwest of Manhattan.

According to the New York Post, The remaining five victims suffered minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

A video shared on social media shows the chaotic scene as shots rang out. Witnesses described a heavy exchange of gunfire that sent the crowd fleeing in panic. Police have not yet released any details about the victims or the number of suspects involved in the shooting.

Multiple police agencies responded to the park, including Irondequoit Police, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Rochester Police and New York State Police. Rochester Police confirmed that a party was taking place in the area at the time of the shooting.

“At this point, we don’t know how many people were shooting,” Bello said. “We’re trying to interview as many witnesses as possible.” No arrests have been made so far and authorities are asking anyone with information or video of the incident to call 911. The investigation is ongoing.
