What We Learned About the Buffalo Bills on Day 4 of 2024 Training Camp

The Buffalo Bills are officially entering their second week of training camp, and with that, it’s time to reflect a little on what was observed during Sunday’s practice. There are only seven practices left at St. John Fisher University that will be open to the public.

As has been the case throughout the first week of the Bills’ 2024 training camp, the tight end room ate very well during Sunday’s session. It’s clear that the new offensive coordinator plans to utilize the team’s star pair of Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox, and each player continues to feel more comfortable in their roles. While Kincaid gets most of the media and fan attention as the receiver of the duo, Knox is there to remind people of his special chemistry with quarterback Josh Allen.

In case you forgot, Josh Allen has a vibrant sense of humor, and his teammates are there for it — perhaps even fueled by it, as sportswriter Alex Brasky pointed out when he shared this about Knox:

Celebration fault:

While the tight ends have rightfully received plenty of praise on social media, the receivers room continues to impress. Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman and Tyrell Shavers each scored against Buffalo’s defense — and Shakir did it twice.

But that terrific play from Allen to Coleman, who reached for the stars to knock the ball away from the defense, was magical.

Bills reporter Sal Capaccio floated the idea that this would be Coleman’s marquee catch of training camp.

We haven’t heard much about running back James Cook, but he’s expected to continue to become a more complete player who stays on the field for every down. Cook was notably absent Sunday, with an excused absence to attend to a personal matter. In his absence, rookie running back Ray Davis and veteran Ty Johnson shared first-team duties, while receiver Curtis Samuel also saw some snaps in the backfield.

Special teams coordinator Matthew Smiley has noticed a difference in kicker Tyler Bass during training camp, which team reporter Maddy Glab said involves “improvements in his technique and mindset … Bass is focused and eager to show those improvements.”

Linebacker Matt Milano celebrated his 30th birthday on Sunday, and Sal Capaccio shared a video of Milano on the field to celebrate. Capaccio noted that Milano “is still wearing the black sleeve on his right leg, but he’s still doing every rep of every drill. He hasn’t been limited at all as far as training.”

On the injury front, offensive lineman Will Clapp was reportedly scheduled to be examined by team trainers after an apparent injury.

Wide receiver Chase Claypool has suffered another injury, this time to his left foot, as shared by Bills reporter Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic. Buscaglia tweeted that Claypool was held out for the remainder of practice. What that means for his chances of making the 53-man roster remains unclear at this point.

The Buffalo Bills will return to the Fisher football fields tomorrow at 9:45 a.m. EDT.
