St. Mary Magdalen School teacher arrested for sending sexual photos to 14-year-old

A 24-year-old eighth-grade teacher at a private Catholic school in Wilmington was arrested for sending sexually explicit photos to her 14-year-old student.

The New Castle County Police Department announced that Alanis Pinion, a former teacher at St. Mary Magdalene School“had frequently communicated with her students via Snapchat and sent sexually explicit photos to one of them.”

When the allegation became known, Catholic Diocese of Wilmington was contacted, informed and fully cooperated with the investigation.

“Earlier this week, the school was contacted by New Castle County Police to inform us of a Investigations and finally the arrest of a former part-time employee in connection with allegations of an electronic exchange of inappropriate images with a former student,” said Rev. James T. Kirk Jr. in a statement sent to all members of the school community.

The contractor had successfully completed the required background check process prior to applying.Kirk noted that the school, parish and diocesan officials were assisting police in their investigation.

“Please be assured that all of us in the parish and school of St. Mary Magdalen, together with our Partners in the Diocese of Wilmington, always pay attention to the safety of our children and young people main target,” said Kirk Jr.

The website describes training and other measures to protect children from sexual assault and publishes official audits and third-party reports on the program’s implementation.

Pinion was taken into custody Thursday and transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters.

She was charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child under 18, one count of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of first-degree public nuisance.

She was brought to court Justice of the Peace Court 2 and is committed to the Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution after a $46,000.00 bail bond was not paid.

In his letter to the families, Kirk wrote that anyone with concerns about their child’s interactions with Pinion should contact New Castle County Police Detective Daniel Watson at (302) 395-8030.

Any further questions, Kirk said, should be directed to the director of the Diocese Office of Safe Environments, Brian Moore, at (302) 295-0668.

“As always, I am available to our community members and parents for any concerns,” he says.

The police fear that there may be more victims who have not yet come forward.
