Rohnert Park man charged with rape and attempted murder in Marin County

A Rohnert Park man is accused of raping one woman, injuring two others and threatening suicide before he was arrested in Marin County Sunday night.

Yuimi Zingkhai, 23, was arrested in Kentfield on suspicion of numerous criminal offenses, according to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the charges include rape, attempted murder, abuse of a dependent, kidnapping, lewd and lascivious acts by a caregiver, assault, robbery, false imprisonment, tampering with a witness, pointing a weapon and domestic violence.

He is being held without bail in the Marin County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Marin County Superior Court on Wednesday. It is unclear if he has an attorney.

According to the sheriff’s office, Zingkhai is an outpatient care worker whose patient was an elderly woman “who suffers from memory impairment and is unable to care for herself or make decisions for herself.”

Her daughter said she came home around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday and caught the suspect raping the elderly woman, officials said.

They did not say where the patient lived, but jail records show Zingkhai was arrested on Almenar Drive in Kentfield.

Zingkhai is accused of grabbing the patient’s daughter by the neck after she screamed at him to stop and then choking her until she lost consciousness.

According to the sheriff, he then dragged her into the kitchen, where she woke up. Zingkhai is suspected of threatening his daughter with a knife and threatening to kill her if she called the police.

According to the sheriff’s office, Zingkhai left the house two hours later after his daughter persuaded him to leave so he could take care of matters “that were important to him.”

At this point, the daughter dialed 911.

Officials said Zingkhai went home and told his girlfriend he was suicidal, then explained he needed to return to the elderly woman’s house.

The girlfriend accompanied him and tried to call 911 on the way to the house. According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect took the phone from her and hit her several times.

When Zingkhai and his girlfriend arrived, authorities were already at the house, and he pushed them out of his vehicle as he tried to escape, officials said.

Police arrested Zingkhai at the scene.
