Justin Chappell, former Weymouth police officer, sentenced – NBC Boston

The former Weymouth, Massachusetts police officer accused of beating a man in custody was sentenced on Tuesday.

Justin Chappell, 43, pleaded guilty to one count of disenfranchisement in federal court in April.

U.S. District Judge Allison D. Burroughs sentenced him on Tuesday to two years’ probation, the first six months of which will be on house arrest, and he was also required to perform 80 hours of community service.

Chappell resigned from his position with Weymouth Police after being told he was at risk of dismissal over the incident on July 2, 2022.

He was accused of hitting the man around 13 times “without legal justification” during an arrest.

Bodycam footage of the incident was released last year.

According to police reports, Chappell and other patrol officers responded to a report that an intoxicated man named Donald McAdam was causing a disturbance.

McAdam is said to have been uncooperative, resisted arrest and spat at a police officer.

Arriving at the patrol car, the handcuffed McAdam apparently resists once again before Chappell repeatedly hits him in the face and head.
