BROCKTON – The city of Brockton has spoken. In an online poll conducted by The Enterprise, you told us which restaurant you think has the best French fries. The winner might be a surprise to some, a no-brainer to others, and a new discovery to still others.

A 74-year-old Mashpee woman was killed and the driver of a sedan was seriously injured in a crash on I-495 in Raynham. “State Police received a report that the vehicle veered out of the center lane into the heavily wooded median and struck several trees,” State Police spokesman Tim McGuirk said in an email.

A 17-year-old male suspect allegedly involved in the July 4 shooting that injured another 17-year-old outside an East Bridgewater apartment complex has been arrested and charged, according to East Bridgewater police.

In an online poll conducted by The Enterprise, Brockton Beer Company won hands down. A total of 12,388 votes were cast for 10 popular Brockton-area restaurants known for their great french fries. Of those, Brockton Beer Company at 121 Main St. received 6,461 votes, or 52.16%.

74-year-old Mashpee woman dies in crash on I-495 in Raynham; driver seriously injured

One person was killed in a car crash on Interstate 495 in Raynham. “State police received a report that the vehicle left the center lane into the heavily wooded median and struck several trees,” said state police spokesman Tim McGuirk. “The vehicle overturned, began to smoke and came to rest on its roof with several large trees on top of it.” The passenger, 74-year-old Lana Testa of Mashpee, succumbed to her injuries, McGuirk said.

Priya Tahiliani will take over as interim superintendent of Brockton Public Schools next year, replacing incumbent Superintendent James Cobbs, according to a vote by school board members Tuesday night. By a 7-1 vote, the Brockton School Committee chose Tahiliani, who most recently served as superintendent of Everett Public Schools, over the other finalist, Jannell D. Pearson-Campbell.

On June 28, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that cities can fine or arrest people who sleep or set up tents in public places. The ruling overturned a lower court’s decision that prohibited cities from banning homeless people from sleeping outdoors. As the number of homeless people in Brockton continues to grow, city leaders have been considering ways to address the problem of homelessness, particularly in the downtown district.

Student at Stoughton High School in Boston shot, another student injured

A Stoughton High School 12th-grader was fatally shot and another classmate was injured in the same shooting incident in Mattapan, officials said. Stoughton Public Schools announced in a Facebook post Saturday morning that Christian Cousins, a member of the graduating class of 2025, was shot with another Stoughton High student on July 5 in Mattapan. “The second student was also shot but did not suffer life-threatening injuries,” the school district said in its statement.
