Hyderabad: Woman raped by driver and his friends on her way back from police station

A 29-year-old woman who was returning home after filing a complaint at the police station was allegedly raped by a ride-sharing driver and two of his colleagues in Hyderabad, police said on Monday.

The incident occurred in the early hours of July 13, when the woman booked an autorickshaw through a taxi broker to reach a police station to file a complaint against her husband over a domestic dispute.

After recording her statement, she returned home in the same autorickshaw.

According to the FIR, the driver took a longer route and picked up two of his colleagues from a wine shop who were drinking alcohol. They even forced the woman to drink alcohol. The driver then drove the vehicle to a deserted area.

There, the men threatened her, dragged her into a car and raped her, the complaint states.

The woman later managed to escape and reached the main road. There she turned 100 and called the police to file a report.

The police have arrested the driver, the other two suspects are still at large. Further investigations are ongoing.
