A man has been arrested in connection with the discovery of human remains in two suitcases near the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol.

The arrest is not related to the search for the same man who was sought by police on Thursday after a photo was released.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said on Friday evening: “A 36-year-old man was arrested at an address in Greenwich early on Friday 12 July.

“He has been taken into custody and remains there. This is not the same man we are appealing for.”

The remains are probably those of two men.

An autopsy was “inconclusive” and a second one is ongoing, the Metropolitan Police said.

None of the victims have been officially identified.

Investigations indicate that a man identified as a suspect travelled from London to Bristol on Wednesday before the remains were found, Scotland Yard said.

A crime scene has been secured in Shepherd’s Bush in west London, where a helicopter circled over Scott’s Road on Friday afternoon. Four police officers guarded a cordoned-off area.

At 6:30 p.m. a private ambulance arrived at the scene of the accident.

“I heard them all racing around here in the early hours of the morning,” said local resident Anthony Priest.

“I heard a police car arriving with its blue lights. It must have been about half past three.”

The property searched in Shepherd’s Bush is next to a large housing estate.

Sky News correspondent Matthew Thompson spoke to a woman who lives in a block directly opposite the property overlooking the crime scene.

The woman, who did not want to give her name, said she and her mother were awakened at 4:30 a.m. by dogs barking and a large commotion outside when police arrived at the property.

She added that officers had been there since then and that she had seen officers in blue forensic suits coming and going all afternoon.

The woman said the thought that something related to the discovery of the bodies in Bristol could have happened so close to her home was “terrifying”.

Avon and Somerset Police, who have not yet identified the suspect, published a photo by him.

He is described as a black man with a beard. He is wearing a black Adidas baseball cap, black jeans, a black jacket and black sneakers with thick white soles. He also had a black backpack with him and was wearing a gold earring.

If anyone sees him, they are advised to call 999 immediately.

There is “no indication” that he is still in the Avon and Somerset area, officials said.

Shortly before midnight on Wednesday evening, officers received reports of a man with a suitcase behaving suspiciously on the bridge.

It is believed that the wanted man took a taxi to “where the suitcases were unloaded,” said Bristol Deputy Commander Vicks Hayward-Melen.

The driver is assisting with the police investigation and a taxi has been confiscated.

The police arrived at the scene within 10 minutes – but the man had disappeared and left a suitcase behind. A second suitcase was found nearby a short time later.

Human remains were found in both.

Witnesses described how the man was confronted after blood came out of a “dirty” suitcase.

He left the scene of the accident, reportedly pursued by a cyclist.

The suspect headed toward Leigh Woods after leaving the suitcases behind, police said Thursday.

Assistant Chief Constable Andy Valentine, who is leading the investigation for the Met, said: “Over the last 48 hours we have been working very closely with colleagues from Avon and Somerset. This work leads us to believe that the man we need to speak to travelled from London to Bristol in the early hours of Wednesday evening (July 10).”

The Met has now taken over the investigation.
