Carter Raleigh, son of WCPO’s Steve Raleigh, involved in violent incident

Carter Raleigh, 28, son of WCPO chief meteorologist Steve Raleigh and grandson of former Hamilton County Sheriff and Attorney Simon L. Leis Jr., was involved in a traffic accident that ended in an assault on June 22.

According to a Cincinnati Police Department traffic accident report, Carter Raleigh was listed as the driver involved in an accident involving 79-year-old Douglas Nathaniel Morrow in the parking lot of the Montgomery Inn The Boathouse.

According to the CPD traffic accident report, Leis is the owner of the vehicle driven by Raleigh.

On July 10, Stacie Morrow-Stickrod posted an update on the incident on Facebook. According to Morrow-Stickrod’s post, her father Morrow, as well as her 76-year-old mother and brother, were attacked following the traffic accident.

In her post, Morrow-Stickrod said the suspects “disregarded the right of way and hit her parents’ truck.”

According to her post, Morrow-Stickrod’s father called police because he “suspected (the suspects) had been drinking (due to the smell of alcohol).” She said this action enraged the suspects, who then began attacking the family.

The CPD incident report stated that the perpetrator was suspected of having consumed drugs or alcohol.

Morrow-Stickrod’s post includes video of the incident and graphic photos of Morrow-Stickrod’s injured mother and father.

Many users on Facebook, Reddit and X, including attorney Eric Deters, claim that one of the men in the video appears to be Steve Raleigh.

Steve Raleigh has since deleted his accounts on X, Facebook and Instagram. It is unclear whether he was involved in the attack.

The video, which is over three minutes long, shows a chaotic scene. An argument breaks out between several people, followed by frantic camera footage of men shoving each other. When the person filming regains their balance, Morrow-Stickrod’s mother and father are both seen lying on the sidewalk. Blood can be seen next to her mother’s head.

Then, several men appear to argue and attempt to de-escalate the situation for the remainder of the video. Some bystanders intervene to help the injured couple as they both try to get up.

An unknown person shouts: “Are you serious? He hit a damn woman!”

The CPD incident report states that “a male named Carter was pushing another parent.” It has not been confirmed who was involved in the attack, but Carter Raleigh and Morrow were involved in the traffic accident that led to the attack.

A manager of the Boathouse said CityBeat that the restaurant does not have surveillance footage of the parking lot because no camera was active during the incident.

Jeff Brogan, vice president and general manager of WCPO, issued the following statement on July 12: “We are aware of the incident involving Steve Raleigh’s family. It remains under investigation and no charges have been filed against anyone at this time. Steve has shared his side of the incident with our leadership. His account is consistent with the police report, which does not mention his name, and with what we have reviewed on video. The video does not show the incident from beginning to end. We will continue to monitor official findings.”

According to Morrow-Stickrod’s post and the traffic accident report, both parents were treated at UC Medical Center. In the post, Morrow-Stickrod said her mother suffered a concussion, skull fracture, brain hemorrhage, a contusion to the back of her head, and cuts and bruises to her arms and legs. Her father also suffered a concussion, the post said.

“These were well-known people locally and in my opinion they believe they are above the law,” Morrow-Stickrod said in the post. “I feel like so much time has passed without an arrest being made and it’s hard to bear to continue to watch my mother struggle.”

According to CPD Lt. Jonathan Cunningham, the incident is still under investigation.

“It was a traffic accident that led to an assault, and our officers were called,” he told CityBeat. “Our investigators are currently working on the case.”
