Police officer injured in Saturday shooting returns home from the hospital today

SPRING — A police officer who was shot in the line of duty on Saturday, April 28, will return home from the hospital on Thursday.

Sergeant. Chad Watt is accompanied on Highway 40 from the Pepsi plant to Taco Bell. The time has not yet been announced but will be late this afternoon.

“As Chad prepares to return home, we would like to invite each and every one of you to join us in celebrating this momentous occasion,” said Roxanne Behunin, Vernal City Human Resources Manager. “We believe it would be incredibly meaningful to line the route along the highway with flags on both sides of Walmart Street to show our solidarity and support as we return to familiar surroundings.” The city is providing employees, Those who want to take part have the flags available.”

Watt, a 25-year veteran of the police force, was shot multiple times on the evening of April 28 while responding to a report of a “drunk man” threatening a neighbor with a gun. Upon arrival, the man opened fire as Watt exited his vehicle.

Watt comes home from the hospital Thursday afternoon.

“While medical expenses will be covered by city insurance, your generosity will help ease the financial burdens the Watt family will face as Sergeant Watt focuses on healing,” a police post said.
