Two people rescued in an incident Sunday afternoon on the Boone River. – KQRadio

On Sunday, July 7, 2024, WCFD received a call of two people kayaking and stuck on a log on the Boone River. The Boone River had risen approximately 6 inches overnight at the time and was flowing very fast. Rescue Boat 1 responded to the search and rescue along with Rescue 35. The two people were last seen near the Albright dock.

Boat 1 docked there and began the search.

The Stratford Fire Department, Van Diest Medical, and Hamilton County Sheriff and Conservation Service also dispatched assistance to the area and were stationed at the Albright wharf. The Stratford Fire Department was stationed at the Tunnel Mill wharf.

Boat 1 located the woman holding onto her kayak in the river and floating toward the Beaver Entrance.

Boat 1, including firefighters Captain Sowle, Lt. Madsen and FF Hunter Hayes, were able to get both people into the boat and to safety. Once on the ground, Van Diest Medical treated the patient and was able to free him unharmed.

This was a great example of Hamilton County Emergency Services working together for the benefit of our community. Special thanks to everyone involved in this rescue and for the positive outcome of this rescue.
