Used car dealer attacked by angry customer with shovel and vehicles demolished – Car Dealer Magazine

An angry customer who attacked a used car dealer and several vehicles with a shovel has been facing prison.

Robert Miller said a used car he bought from Affordable Motor Store was defective and he drove to the dealership in Tollcross to complain.

Showroom staff viewed the vehicle and disagreed with Miller, leading to a violent confrontation in the forecourt.

The Glasgow Times reports that 64-year-old Miller blocked the entrance to the site with his car before getting a shovel out of the vehicle.

He then attacked a defenseless salesman, hitting him on the left arm, elbow, forearm, hip and legs.

The customer left his victim lying on the ground and then turned to other cars parked in the forecourt with the shovel, smashing several windows and then fleeing in his car.

Police later tracked down Miller and he appeared before Glasgow Sheriff Court where he admitted being in possession of the offensive weapon, assaulting the worker and destroying property.

The court heard testimony from Miller’s lawyer, who said the car was “not fit for purpose” and described the incident as a “contract dispute.”

However, he acknowledged that the defense was “no excuse” for his client’s actions on June 13, 2023.

In response, Sheriff Vincent Lunny warned that Miller was likely facing a prison sentence.

He said: “This is totally unacceptable. This should not have happened. He has been in prison before, I see no way out.”

Miller’s lawyers added: “He is not working, but that does not excuse what he did. He will not return to this firm.”

The prosecution was unable to estimate the damage caused by Miller, so sentencing was postponed pending further information.

The Affordable Motor Store has been closed since the incident. Miller will appear in court again at a later date.
