A man dies and a woman is injured in a shooting in Antioch on Wednesday evening

(KRON) — Antioch police say an overnight shooting left a man dead and a woman in critical condition Wednesday. Officers responded to a report of a man shot near the Vineyards at around 11:26 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers rendered aid until the Contra Costa County Fire Department arrived and took over. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A second victim, a woman, arrived at Sutter Delta Medical Hospital with at least one gunshot wound. She was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek in critical condition.

The investigation into the shooting has been taken over by the Antioch Police Department’s Bureau of Investigation, which consists of crime scene investigators and the Violent Crimes Unit. Police describe the investigation as active and ongoing and declined to release any further information.

The identity of the victims will be kept secret until the next of kin have been notified. According to the police, this is an isolated case and there is no immediate danger to the public.
