Metro Atlanta 10-year-old competes in national spelling bee

DUNWOODY, Ga. — Austin Elementary School students are celebrating one of their classmates who is preparing to represent Georgia in the Scripps National Spelling Bee later this month.

Fourth-grader Sarv Dharavane won the 63rd annual Georgia Association of Educators spelling bee in March, and now he’s headed to Maryland for the national spelling bee.

Her advice to other students looking to expand their vocabulary is to read – a lot.

“Read your books, all the books. And I’m talking to all the kids who are going to watch this,” Dharavane said. “Read your books! If you don’t read books, you’ll never get anywhere.”

The Scripps National Spelling Bee will take place on May 28.
