Nigerians urge Dapo Abiodun to abandon his ‘steeze lifestyle’ and focus on governance

Nigerians have strongly criticised Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun over the deplorable state of roads across the state, urging him to concentrate on governance and abandon an extravagant lifestyle.

The hours of rain over the past few days have further worsened the already deplorable condition of the roads, which are rife with death traps, and made using the roads a nightmare for commuters.

Videos posted online showed drivers with their broken-down vehicles and pedestrians who were almost half submerged in the heavily flooded streets due to huge potholes and a lack of drainage channels.

Former gubernatorial candidate Segun Showunmi of the Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday called on the “Steeze Governor” to declare a state of emergency on the state’s roads on his Facebook page, writing: “…those who have governed and are governing now must look in the mirror and be ashamed of the way the state looks in terms of road infrastructure.”

“So, as far as the current governor, Dapo Abiodun is concerned, you should re-order your priorities. I confirm that I have seen some efforts on roads which are equally important but mostly remain unsaid by telling you to remove the allegation of bad roads,” he advised.

In the same vein, Hauwa Allahbura (@hauwaallahbura), who shared a video of a bad road on her X-handle, wrote: “This is Kola bus station, just before Lafenwa-Itele road… Ota Ogun State. We are just saying to Dapo Abiodun: give us more roads.”

Another X user, Tunde Aluko (@tundealuko), wrote in his own post: “There is no world in which Dapo Abiodun can be considered an average governor. He is a terrible failure in every way. Voters who have seen no signs of governance in his five years in office will rightly label him a disaster.”

Also, @Ilo_Monsurbj stated: “You will be surprised how this road (Ijoko Road) is connected to the Lagos-Abẹ́òkúta Expressway which connects Lagos State. But the governor is not interested in completing the road until it is in Ogun East (his Senatorial District). It is a matter of time.”

However, in response to the criticism, the state government on Monday listed over 40 roads that it has completed under its official X-name.
