Death investigation underway after wanted suspect found dead in Hickory

HICKORY, NC – A death investigation is underway after a wanted suspect was found dead on Thursday, June 27.

The officer went to a residence on 9th Avenue Drive NE in Hickory to locate the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Dallas Gragg. Gragg was wanted for several offenses, including the following:

  • Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and cause serious bodily harm.
  • One count of robbery with a dangerous weapon.
  • One count of possession of a firearm by a felon.

The charges stem from a shooting and armed robbery that occurred on June 20, 2024, on Valley Arbors Drive in which Gragg was listed as a suspect.

According to a press release, officers monitoring the home said they saw Gragg leave and re-enter the home.

Officials said they were unable to make contact with him to arrest him, but when several residents left the house, it was confirmed that Gragg was still in the house, a press release said.

After several failed attempts to contact Gragg, officers entered the home and found Gragg dead in the attic.

Investigators are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Hickory Police at 828-3328-5551.
