A 59-year-old man was fatally injured in Long Beach when someone hit him with a car in a possible carjacking and then fled, authorities said.

On Sunday, June 23, around 9:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to Santa Fe Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway “in response to a carjacking,” police said.

The officers found the man with life-threatening injuries to his upper and lower body. He died in hospital.

Authorities have not released his name until his relatives have been notified.

“The victim and the suspect were involved in an argument that escalated when the suspect struck the victim with a vehicle,” police said. “The motive and circumstances of the incident remain under investigation.”
