At least 50 dead in Israeli attacks on Gaza City – POLITICO

The Israeli military confirmed the attacks in a brief statement, saying the targets were “Hamas military infrastructure sites.”

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) stated in a post on X am Sonntag that “nowhere in Gaza is a safe place.”

“This blatant disregard for international humanitarian law must end,” UNRWA said, pointing out that since the start of Israel’s offensive in the Gaza Strip, which was triggered by the militant group Hamas’s attack on October 7, 69 percent of the buildings housing displaced families have either been damaged or directly hit by Israeli airstrikes.

The airstrikes on Gaza on Saturday coincided with a large anti-government demonstration in Tel Aviv, where tens of thousands gathered to demand the resignation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Protesters waved Israeli flags and criticized the right-wing coalition government’s handling of the war and its failure to hand over soldiers captured by Hamas nearly nine months ago.

In a statement to the Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom on Sunday, former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said the world had lost confidence in the country’s government and that it was time to “end the fighting with an agreement under which all abductees would be returned.”
