Recall Warning: Rivian R1S, R1T Side Curtain Airbags

Rivian has recalled 1,723 R1S SUVs and R1T pickups from model years 2022 through 2024 because their side airbags may not deploy properly in a crash.

The company told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that technicians may have removed and reused the side pillar interior trim pieces during maintenance instead of replacing them with new trim pieces. “Removing and reusing the trim pieces may damage the mounting clips that secure the trim piece to the pillar,” the company said.

This could result in the side airbags not deploying as intended. The company is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.

Rivian will fix the problem by replacing the panels with new parts.

As with all recall repairs, the repair is free. Manufacturers try to contact every owner, but don’t always reach everyone with the news. Find out if your car has ever been recalled at our recall center.
