Police arrest suspect after shooting in Mount Pleasant area overnight | Crime

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (WJRT) – Police have arrested the man accused of shooting someone in Isabella County and then fleeing, sparking a large-scale manhunt.

According to Michigan State Police, 60-year-old Leangel Sabatela-Rodriguez was located and arrested overnight. He was taken to the Isabella County Jail, where he remained in custody Tuesday morning while awaiting arraignment.

He is accused of strangling and shooting a man after an argument at a home in Chippewa Township, east of Mount Pleasant, on Monday afternoon. Police from several agencies launched a search spanning several square miles in Isabella County.

The Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort and several other nearby businesses were cordoned off during the manhunt on Monday.

Police identified the victim only as a 43-year-old man. He was taken to a Midland hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
