Fatal accident on I-20 in Kershaw County leads to road closure

Due to an accident, the eastbound lanes of I-20 are closed between the rest area and the Wateree River Bridge.

COLUMBIA, SC — According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a portion of eastbound Interstate 20 in Kershaw County is closed due to a crash.

The accident occurred about three miles west of Camden near mile marker 94. That’s near mile marker 94, between the rest area and the Wateree River bridge.

According to state police, two semi-trucks were traveling east on I-20 when one of them had to slow down for traffic. The vehicle was then struck by the semi-truck traveling behind it.

The driver of the first truck was taken to a local hospital, while the driver of the second semi-trailer died at the scene.

Master Trooper MR Ridgeway said he expects the road to be closed for several hours. A detour has been set up that will take vehicles off the highway at the exit at 92 miles and take them onto Highway 601 and then onto Highway 521 before rejoining I-20.
