Air conditioning units attacked in church in Tulsa

TULSA, Oklahoma – The air conditioning system was destroyed in another church, this time a Hispanic place of worship.

Jose Alfonso is pastor of the Iglesias Piedra Angular Church near South 129th and Route 66.

One of his co-workers called him and gave him some frightening news.

“He told me, ‘Pastor, you have to come. The air conditioners are damaged. It looks like someone stole them,'” Alfonso said.

When Alfonso arrived, he found that all of the church’s air conditioning systems had been destroyed, which put the church in a difficult financial situation.

“We’re talking about thousands and thousands of dollars because we’re talking about five units,” Alfonso said.

This is not the first time a church in Green Country has been targeted by vandals.

WATCH: In April, 2 News’ Naomi Keitt met with the North Peoria Church of Christ, whose air conditioning units were emptied because of the copper, causing $100,000 in damage.

Alfonso was disappointed to witness vandalism at a place of worship.

“It is bad to cause such damage anywhere, but in the house of the Lord, come on,” said Alfonso.

Despite the setback, Alfonso found ways to continue serving the Church.

“We moved our main service to our children’s center and held our church there. It’s not the same, but people came,” Alfonso said.

Alfonso said he is working with Tulsa police to find the attackers. If you would like to donate to help the Iglesias Piedra Angular church, click here.
