Judgement day for serial rapist from Chipinge

The Chipinge District Court is expected to announce the verdict on Daniel Chauke (62), accused of rape, on 17 June 2024. He is accused of six counts of rape.

The trial took place continuously between Monday, June 10 and Friday, June 14, 2024.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Chauke allegedly raped a woman (69) who was coming from her field on April 3, 2022.

He approached the plaintiff and told her that her grandchildren had stolen his property from his house.

Chauke then struck the complainant once on the right cheek, causing her to fall. He then tied her hands and mouth and drove her into a bush area where he committed the offence.

Chauke is also accused of raping a 60-year-old woman who was harvesting maize in her field on May 3, 2022.

He accused the plaintiff of stealing an animal which he caught with a snare before driving her into a bush area where he raped her. After the crime, he took the plaintiff’s phone and walked away.

Chauke is alleged to have committed four other similar offences between July 2022 and April 2024 involving a 46-year-old woman, a 23-year-old woman, a 71-year-old woman and a 36-year-old woman. He was arrested at Usange in Chipinge on 27 May 2024.

He is also accused of triple murder.
