Benue PDP Ward EXCO suspends state press secretary and others

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of Mbagba District in Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue State has suspended the party’s State Press Secretary, Mr. Bemgba Iortyom.

The PDP chairman in Mbagba district, Peter Asende, was also suspended. He was accused of collaborating with Iortyom to prevent the party from growing and sustaining its successes in the district.

At an extraordinary board meeting in Atekombo, the headquarters of Mbagba Council Ward, the ward leaders unanimously decided that Iortyom should be suspended because he had caused embarrassment and great damage to the PDP through his numerous public appearances, particularly on TVC.

The Assembly regretted that Iortyom had publicly boasted that he had disappointed the party in the 2023 parliamentary elections by supporting the Workers’ Party’s presidential candidate.

Announcing the outcome of the meeting, District Secretary Emmanuel Akaanger said: “Mr Iortyom was suspended for gross anti-party activities, insubordination, indiscipline and non-payment of party dues for a period of time.”

Meanwhile, following this development, Terese Achir, a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ushongo Local Government Area, has filed an application before the Makurdi High Court seeking an interim injunction suspending Iortyom.

In the suit marked No. MHC/246/246 and Application No. MHC/1092/24, Achir seeks an interim injunction restraining Iortyom from acting or holding himself out as the party’s press secretary in Benue State until the interim injunction application has been heard before the court.
