The “First Alert Weather Days” are in effect as a heat warning until the weekend. Are storms possible next week?

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Valley is in for a sunny and hot day with a high of 42 degrees. It’s a First Alert Weather Day with a heat warning through Sunday night for the lower elevations of the state, including the Valley metropolitan area.

Saturday and Sunday are also the first heat warning days. Expect highs around 113 degrees on Saturday and 111 degrees on Sunday, Father’s Day. Windy conditions are expected across the state on Sunday, with high pressure moving away from Arizona and a low pressure moving in from the northwest. A low pressure system passing to the north will temporarily bring temperatures back to near-normal levels during the first half of next week. Highs will be between 105 and 107 degrees Monday through Wednesday.

A strong high pressure system will move in from the east during the second half of the week. This will cause temperatures to rise again, with highs of nearly 46 degrees on Thursday. This will also bring the first monsoon moisture of the season to the state. There could be some thunderstorms at higher elevations towards the end of the week and the following weekend. The monsoon season officially begins this Saturday.
