People arrested during protests at UConn appear in court – NBC Connecticut

Seven people arrested at a pro-Palestinian protest at UConn were in court Wednesday.

They were arrested last week at a camp set up on UConn’s Storrs campus and charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct. They were arraigned Wednesday morning in Rockville Superior Court.

Jacqueline Allen stood outside the courthouse in the rain, holding signs in support of the defendants.

“Here to support the UConn students arrested at the camp going to court,” Allen said. “I’m very proud of them for standing up. I am very proud of them for risking their safety and their freedom, and I am very proud of them for showing the nation what consciousness looks like.”

UConn said they arrested students only after the group ignored repeated warnings to take down tents that had been set up. But some students argued that the arrests went a step too far.

Previously, cameras were not allowed in court.

UConn said it would not comment on the lawsuits because the cases are pending.
