Rape of 15-year-old girlfriend: Teenager sent to reformatory

Malaysia: An 18-year-old accused of two counts of raping his underage girlfriend has been committed to Henry Gurney Reformatory for three years or until his 21st birthday, whichever comes first. District Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan made the order as his case was brought forward for review and sentencing.

The welfare report from the social services department recommended that the teenager be sent to a reformatory. The recommendation was made under section 91(1) (f) of the Children Act 2006. According to the first charge, the teenager raped the 15-year-old and five-month-old girl at a seaside hut in Papar at 12.30pm on 19 June 2023. According to the second charge, he committed the same offence against the same victim at the same location at 4am on 13 November 2023.

The offence, under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, carries a prison sentence of up to 20 years and flogging if convicted. The court heard that the teenager went to the victim’s house and took her to the seaside where the rape took place.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Shafeerah Mad Iskim appeared for the prosecution, while the teenager was unrepresented.
