Prosecutor: Investigation underway into drowning of 2-year-old boy in Brockton pool

Detectives are investigating the suspected drowning death of a 2-year-old boy in Brockton Saturday morning, authorities said.

According to Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz and Brockton Police, emergency responders cared for the unresponsive little one before taking him to Good Samaritan Hospital only to find him around 9:15 a.m., when a child was found in a backyard swimming pool at 111 Ardsley Circle.

The victim, whose identity has not yet been established, was pronounced dead in hospital.

Some neighbors placed flowers on a chair in front of the house.

“I was watching TV and then I saw the police and fire trucks,” said a neighbor. “Oh, what a tragedy. I just can’t imagine what the family is going through.”

The neighbor did not want to reveal her identity, but said that the family treated their children very lovingly.

Another neighbor said he was devastated.

“They’re like family to me, so I’m walking across the street just to find out what’s going on,” said neighbor Daniel Burton. “She was too distressed.”

Massachusetts State Police patrol officers assigned to the District Attorney’s Office are assisting Brockton Police in the investigation.

This is a developing story. Check back later for updates as more information becomes available.
