First level weather warning: Temperatures will rise above 110° for the first time in 2024

A First Alert weather warning is in effect until Friday to raise awareness of the increased risk of heat-related illness due to extreme heat in the deserts of Southern California.

A heat warning remains in effect for the entire Coachella Valley. Even if temperatures do not threaten the records on the valley floor, this is the first major heat of the 2024 summer season.

It’s not just the heat, but the extra moisture moving into the desert southwest that’s making for a less than pleasant situation. Dew point temperatures are at 10 degrees in the Coachella Valley and are expected to stay that way through the weekend.

Stronger winds are forecast for Friday night, with gusts of up to 30 mph expected, especially in wind-prone communities. Temperatures will drop to around 105°F early next week.
