CXC reverses decision to suspend examination subjects

TThe Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) has announced that it will not go ahead with the suspension of four examination subjects following a wave of public concern and discussions with regional education ministers. The subjects initially considered for suspension were Agricultural Science (Double Award), Mechanical Engineering Technology (CSEC), Environmental Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering (CAPE).

This announcement came from CXC Registrar/CEO Dr. Wayne Wesley during a press conference on Tuesday. The CEO said that the council has launched a number of new generation technology and science programs and although some of them do not yet have the desired demand, governments and the council would work together to increase demand for the newly added programs.

Newly introduced programs include entrepreneurship, performing arts, sports, tourism, animation and game design, logistics and supply chain operations, digital media and financial services.

“Accordingly, today’s discussions with the education ministers underline the need for a joint regional marketing offensive to promote the priority areas of STEM education and climate-friendly agriculture, which are considered crucial for the region’s economic growth and sustainable development,” added the CEO.
