A man wanted in a fatal shooting was arrested after Antioch went into lockdown

ANTIOCH — A man arrested Monday after an hours-long lockdown in Antioch was wanted in connection with a fatal shooting earlier this year in the Central Valley, police said.

The fatal shooting occurred around 8:40 p.m. on March 18 at East Market and South East streets in Stockton, the Stockton Police Department said in a news release Tuesday.

According to police, officers arrived to find a 40-year-old man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital where he died from his injuries.

Police did not release a motive for the shooting.

Investigators identified the suspect as 28-year-old Carlos Palacios and obtained an arrest warrant for him.

Palacios was arrested Monday in Antioch. His presence near Gentrytown Drive and Putnam Street triggered a closure from just before 2 p.m. until just after 5 p.m

“Go inside, close and lock all windows and doors,” the Contra Costa County Emergency Alert System said in a message to area residents. “Do not use the phone or call 911 unless you need to report a life-threatening emergency.”
