Children throw a line with local police and firefighters at the Cops & Bobbers, Hooks & Ladders event in Granby

GRANBY, Mass. (WWLP) – If you’re looking for something fun to do with the kids, look no further than Saturday’s Cops & Bobbers, Hooks & Ladders fishing derby at Dufresne Park in Granby.

According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, police and fire departments from the University of Massachusetts, the Massachusetts towns of Amherst, Granby and Belchertown, the Massachusetts State Police and the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Department will teach children how to fish at this annual event.

This program, which runs from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, is designed to introduce children to nature and foster positive relationships in their community and with police officers. There will also be a dog demonstration, hands-on nature tables and the opportunity to climb into a fire truck and patrol car.

The event is held in partnership with police departments, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge, the MassWildlife Angler Education Program, and community organizations and volunteers.
