Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash Thursday afternoon on 16th Street near Greeley Central High School.

According to police, a 37-year-old motorcyclist crashed into a vehicle that was turning onto 14th Avenue. According to police, he was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Shortly after 4 p.m. on May 2, Greeley police, firefighters and paramedics responded to 16th Street and 14th Avenue after a report of an injured accident involving a motorcycle. Police declined Thursday to provide the Tribune with any information about the crash, citing the ongoing investigation.

Police closed parts of 16th Street east and west of the accident scene for several hours Thursday while they investigated the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the motorcyclist was traveling west on 16th Street through the intersection at 14th Avenue when he encountered an eastbound vehicle on 16th Street that had stopped to make a turn.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 71-year-old woman, was not injured. Police said they remained at the scene and were cooperating with the investigation.

The Weld County Coroner will release the identity of the motorcyclist after notifying next of kin.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Officers Kuala or Wegscheider at (970) 350-9605.
