Woman in the 90s attacked by dog

A woman in her 90s is in a “potentially life-threatening” condition after being bitten by a dog, police said.

Devon and Cornwall Police said officers were called to a property on Cannis Road in St Austell, Cornwall, following the attack at 00:45 BST on Thursday.

According to police, a woman was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth with a “serious dog bite to the arm”.

The dog – it was not a banned breed – was put down.

A man in his 60s from St Austell who was arrested on suspicion of causing or permitting serious harm to a vulnerable adult has been released on bail until August 29, police said.

Police said the woman’s next of kin had been informed.

Officials said: “It is believed that this was an isolated incident that did not pose a major threat to the public.”

“While investigations continue, a police cordon remains in place.”
