Buffalo man convicted of murder

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man was found guilty of second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon Wednesday, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office announced.

At approximately 11:40 p.m. on June 18, 2022, Jonathan Whitsett, 39, intentionally shot the victim, William Cobb III, 36, with an illegal weapon inside the defendant’s vehicle, which was parked near Manhattan Avenue in the Town of Buffalo.

Officials said Cobb was transported in a private vehicle to ECMC where he later died from his injuries.

Whitsett faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

He is scheduled to be sentenced July 24 and remains held without bail.
