(DVR-ALARM) Mecum presents: Automotive Archaeology 1953 Corvette Serial Number #001

(DVR-ALARM) Mecum presents: Automotive Archaeology 1953 Corvette Serial Number #001

Over a year ago, we first heard the amazing story of how several early Corvette enthusiasts, led by Corey Peterson, deduced that a 1953 Corvette abandoned at an Oklahoma restoration shop was actually the very first commercially available Corvette, VIN 001. For those of us still waiting for more information, it’s time to set our DVRs for 10:00 a.m. ET Saturday.

The story of Corey and the 1953 Corvette, VIN 001, is told in “Mecum Presents: Automotive Archeology,” which airs on MotorTrendTV. You can also stream it on MAX.

It was always said that the first two 1953 Corvettes were taken by GM engineers and destroyed during testing. But if research remains conclusive, that doesn’t seem to be the case. In short, internal documents identified the Corvette with VIN 001 as GM shop order 3950. Later documents show that several engineering updates were actually made to No. 3950, and that the abandoned car Corey found has all of those updates.

We’re excited to learn more about this incredible find and agree that it will be the most significant discovery in Corvette’s 71-year history. Here’s a preview of the show:
