Swimmer found dead in Bare Hill Pond – NBC Boston

A swimmer died early Thursday morning in a pond in Harvard, Massachusetts, police said.

According to Harvard police, the person went underwater about 250 feet from shore near Barba’s Point in Bare Hill Pond, and a friend who was there called police at about 12:28 a.m.

Rescue workers from the area rushed to the pond and searched for the swimmer using boats and drones, police said. They found the swimmer’s body at around 2:09 a.m.

The swimmer’s name was not released and police did not provide further details about the circumstances of his nighttime visit to the pond.

“Harvard Police would like to thank the Boxborough Police Department, State Police, and all fire and rescue teams involved for their quick response and assistance. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time,” police said in a statement.

The incident was still being investigated on Thursday afternoon, police said, and urged the public to be careful when dealing with bodies of water.
