Judge shocked as Michigan man attends hearing on driver’s license suspension while driving

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – After being charged with driving without a license, a man made a virtual court appearance – while driving.

The man attended his hearing before Judge Cedric Simpson in Washtenaw County 14A District Court via Zoom on May 15.

When the 44-year-old man arrived for the hearing, he appeared to be driving a vehicle. When Simpson asked the defendant if he was driving, he replied that he was on his way to his doctor’s office. The judge then waited until the man stopped and parked the vehicle.

“I look at his record and he doesn’t have a license,” Simpson said. “He’s suspended and he’s just driving…”

He paused for a long moment. “I don’t even know why he would do that.”

Simpson revoked his bail and ordered him to surrender to the Washtenaw County Jail that same day.

“Oh my God,” the man sighs.

His next hearing is scheduled for June 5 at 9 a.m. His attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
