NNPD: Father arrested in connection with death of 4-month-old child

NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia (WAVY) – A man has been arrested in connection with the death of his four-month-old child, according to a statement from the Newport News Police Department (NNPD) Wednesday.

A publication states that on October 6, 2023, Child Protective Services contacted NNPD because a toddler had been taken to a local hospital with “undetermined injuries.” The child succumbed to his injuries on November 1, 2023.


After determining the cause of death, the medical examiner’s office ruled the four-month-old baby’s death a homicide.

Shortly thereafter, 21-year-old Aaron Howard-Westbrook Sr. was charged with first-degree murder, two counts of child abuse/neglect causing serious bodily harm, and first-degree assault.

According to police, Howard-Westbrook was taken into custody on May 3, 2024.
