Gas line repair triggers preventive emergency alarm

Police told KARE 11 that residents in the area had been asked to “evacuate as a precaution” while workers worked to repair the line.

ANNANDALE, Minnesota – Some viewers of KARE 11’s 5 p.m. newscast Tuesday were surprised when a message announcing a “civil danger” appeared on their screens.

According to Annandale police, the alarm was raised by workers who allegedly accidentally “clipped” a gas line in the area of Plymouth Avenue and Highland Street West during a road construction project Tuesday afternoon. Police told KARE 11 that residents in the area were asked to “evacuate as a precaution” while workers worked to repair the line.

The leak in the damaged gas line, which occurred around 3 p.m., was repaired about two hours later. Police said residents returned to their homes shortly before 5:30 p.m.

Police said emergency crews remained on scene to ensure the leak was permanently repaired and that no one was injured by the leak.
