Atlanta Airport, World’s Busiest, Sets New Record for Most Passengers Screened on Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day travel at Atlanta Airport, the world’s busiest, broke the record for the most passengers screened on May 25, according to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). As of May 25, more than 2.9 million travelers had passed through airport checkpoints.

About 111,000 people passed through security all day Thursday, the TSA said. Fox 5 Atlanta reported that although travelers expected a prolonged line at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Friday (May 24), they were pleased to see that airport operations were running smoothly.

In a post on social media platform X, “TSA officers set new record for most travelers screened in a single day! On Friday, May 24, 2,951,163 people were screened at checkpoints nationwide, surpassing the previous record of November 26, 2023. We recommend arriving early.”

Wednesday marked the start of the busiest travel period for Memorial Day weekend, which continues into next week.

“Considering it’s the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, I feel like it could be worse, but, you know, given that it’s as early as it could have been if it had been lighter, it wouldn’t have been a surprise either,” one traveler said. Fox 5 Atlanta.

According to the TSA, the wait time never exceeded eight minutes on Thursday and agents are expected to keep it below 30 minutes.

With more than 2,300 planes expected to pass through Atlanta on Friday alone, operations are proceeding smoothly on the runway at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the news agency further reported.

Airline ground staff exert all possible efforts under the wing to ensure that flights take off on time. During weekends like this, everyone is ready for anything and everything.

Hartsfield-Jackson officials anticipate 2.5 million passengers will travel to and from Atlanta during the holiday season.

Airport authorities are urging passengers to check parking alternatives before boarding their flight.

Authorities had advised passengers to arrive at the airport early – two hours before domestic travel and three hours before international travel – as they do.
