Walnut Creek man arrested for suspected check fraud and credit card theft

Brentwood police arrested a Walnut Creek man earlier this week on suspicion of bank fraud.

An officer responded to a bank around 3:30 p.m. Monday, where the manager said a man cashed a $2,000 check last week that later turned out to be counterfeit. The bank provided a photo of the suspect and identified him as 34-year-old Adam Lew.

A few hours later, police received a call requesting to check on the welfare of an adult male who was sitting in his car in the area of 4500 Balfour Road.

Officers immediately recognized the man in the car as Lew and arrested him. Police said they found counterfeit checks, an M80 firework, ground down keys and several debit and credit cards that did not belong to Lew.

Police took Lew to the Martinez Detention Center, where he was arrested on suspicion of check fraud, possession of stolen debit and credit cards, possession of an explosive device, identity theft and other related offenses.
