San Jose police are searching for the suspect who sexually assaulted a girl under the I-280 freeway

SAN JOSE – Police in San Jose are searching for a man suspected of sexually abusing a girl under a highway as she walked home from school last month.

According to investigators, the incident occurred on April 9 at approximately 5:25 p.m. in the area of ​​South 11th Street below Interstate 280.

An investigation revealed that the victim, who was only an underage female, was walking north on South 11th Street when a suspect on a dark-colored bicycle approached her and pulled her under the overpass.

Police said the suspect sexually assaulted the victim and prevented her from leaving. The victim fought back against the suspect, who left the scene on his bicycle.

Investigators with the department’s Sexual Assault Investigations Unit have identified the suspect as 50-year-old Julian Salvador Martinez and released photos of him. Martinez is described as being about 5’10” tall, with dark hair and a thin mustache.

At the time of the incident, Martinez was wearing a black baseball cap with yellow lettering, a black sweatshirt with light lettering, light-colored pants and black sneakers.

Investigators said Martinez frequently hangs out in the Coyote Creek area near Keyes Street and Senter Road, known as “The Jungle,” as well as the area of ​​East Williams Street and South 10th Street. Martinez is reportedly aware that he is wanted by authorities and has been forced out of his camp.
