First weather warning: Mother’s Day could end with the aurora

ROCHESTER, NY – We woke up to a cloudy start to Mother’s Day Sunday, but that won’t last all day.

On Sunday morning, clouds will break during the afternoon as skies clear late. However, we will see the odd shower from time to time this Sunday. Rain is not expected and the best chance for showers is between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday. There is no reason to cancel any outdoor plans, but be aware that showers are possible on Sunday. The skies are clearing as we approach Sunday evening and that is great news as the Northern Lights will be possible again on Sunday evening. According to the forecast for Sunday morning, the Northern Lights will not be as strong as Friday evening, but visibility remains possible. The best chance to see the lights tonight is from 10:00 p.m. to around 2:00 a.m. and away from the city lights.

I would like to note that the storm on Friday evening should not be as strong as it was on Friday morning, meaning the forecast strength could change significantly throughout the day. So stay tuned for more updates. After clear skies on Sunday evening, clouds will move in on Monday afternoon, with a few showers, and this chance of showers will continue into Wednesday this week.
