’13 Reasons Why’ viewers were ‘disturbed’ by sexual assault in Season 2

13 reasons why returned to Netflix last week and shocked viewers.

The first season of the teen drama focused on the reasons why Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) committed suicide, and the second season explored the ongoing lives of the people she blamed when her parents took her school to court.

Season two touched on several topics, from drug addiction to cutting, but sexual assault took center stage as Hannah’s friends tried to seek justice against Bryce Walker (Justin Prentice), the baseball captain who killed both Jessica (Alisha Boe). Hannah also raped.

However, another sexual assault occurred in the last episode when baseball player Monty (Timonty Granaderos) anally raped Tyler Downs (Devin Druid) with a mop in the school bathroom.

The spectators were unsettled by the scene.

There was a trigger warning at the beginning of the episode, as well as a website link to those who may be affected by the events depicted.

There is also a message from the cast before the first episode indicating that certain viewers should not watch the series if they are particularly stimulated by the topics it covers.

Season 2 only has a 37% approval rating among critics, a drop from the first season, which felt that way “lost track of what made the show so exciting in the first place.”
